EPA Star Fellowship Applications Due 10/23/07

TSR&TP student fellowship applicants and recipients are particularly well suited to receive EPA Science to Achieve Results Fellowships for graduate environmental study. We encourage all our fellowship applicants to apply. Applications are due to EPA by October 23rd. More information on the STAR site.

SOT Annual Meeting Abstracts Due 10/3/07

The Society of Toxicology 2008 Annual Meeting is accepting abstracts for presentation on their website until October 3, 2007. The meeting will be held in Seattle, Washington March 16-20, 2008.

Association for Environmental Health & Sciences Student Competition

The Association for Environmental Health & Sciences is holding a student competition for presentations at their West Coast Conference March 10-13, 2008. Abstracts for the competition will be accepted until September 20, 2007. Details are on the AEHS website.

New Lead Campus Proposals Due 2/28/08

We are looking for a few good people to form a new TSR&TP Lead Campus Program in any area relevant to toxic substances. $270,000 in annual funding for up to 6 years will be awarded to the winning group. Proposals are due 2/28/08 - see RFP for details.

3 Win Best Posters at 2007 Symposium

Kou-San Ju of UC Davis won the TSR&TP Best Poster Award at the 2007 Symposium for his poster on Detection of natural and man-made aromatic compounds by modified transcriptional activator proteins.

Two honorable mention awards were given to Cynthia Kern of UC Santa Cruz for Neurotoxicity of neonatal manganese exposure: Effects on the developing dopaminergic system and to Rachel Washburn of UC San Francisco for Measuring the Pollution in People: Implications of Biomonitoring for Health, Environment, and Policy.

Posters were evaluated on their ability to communicate science to a broad audience, scientific content, creativity, and visual presentation. Winners were given iPods and the first place winner also received a $500 travel award to present research at a scientific meeting.

2008 Annual Symposium Set for Riverside April 11-12
The Mission Inn

The 2008 Annual TSR&TP Research Symposium will be held April 11-12, at the Mission Inn in Riverside. All faculty and students funded by the TSR&TP in 2007-08 will be invited to attend and present posters. The general public is also welcome to attend. Detailed information will be posted on the TSR&TP homepage in January.
