| In late November, the TSR&TP issued requests for proposals for 1999-2000 funding for graduate student fellowships and faculty grant awards for research on toxic substances in the environment. More than half a million dollars is available for two year awards of up to $50,000 each for investigator-initiated research grants and $40,000 each for graduate student fellowships. UC faculty and graduate students enrolled in any UC graduate program are eligible to apply. The TSR&TP supports research in the biological, physical, engineering, or social sciences relevant to problems of toxic substances in California. Intercampus Travel Grants of up to $500 for 1998-99 are also available for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to collaborate with investigators at other UC campuses. For further information and the full versions of the RFPs, please visit our web site (http://tsrtp.ucdavis.edu/tsrtp/funded_projects/) or contact Mika Pringle Tolson, UC TSR&TP Program Coordinator at (530) 752-2097, email: mptolson@ucdavis.edu.
Funding Available for New TSR&TP Lead Campus Up to $300,000 of annual funding for a multi-year program of a new TSR&TP Lead Campus is available, beginning in January of 2000. A Lead Campus is a program of fundamental and/or applied interdisciplinary research and training focused on important problem areas of toxic substances in the environment. This program should provide funding for graduate and postdoctoral training, both in the laboratory and the classroom, and a forum for faculty from different disciplines to share their research interests and develop new collaborations. Research areas of major interest to the TSR&TP include public policy, toxic pollutants from industrial and non-agricultural sources, pollution prevention, agricultural chemicals, and biological and chemical toxics. Preproposals are due on March 1, 1999, and the deadline for full proposals is August 2, 1999. |
