| TSR&TP Co-Sponsors Environmental Policy Studies with California Policy Research Center |
As part of an effort to become more involved in policy research, the TSR&TP has teamed up with the California Policy Research Center (CPRC) to sponsor projects in environmental policy. Requests for Proposals are issued by the CPRC. Two projects have been funded so far. The first project at UC Santa Cruz, Beyond Aquisition: Management and Stewardship of California's Conservation Estate, was awarded to Environmental Studies Professor Daniel Press to evaluate California's land use policies. In the second project, Urban and Regional Planning Professor Raul Lejano of UC Irvine will produce an issue paper on Combining Regulatory and Community Strategies for Addressing Disproportionate Exposures to Cumulative Risk. The 2004-05 CPRC call for proposals for policy-related research is requesting notification letters by 12/5/03 and proposals are due 1/7/04. |
| 17th Annual Symposium in San Diego April 23-24 Features TSR&TP Alumni in Careers and Lunchtime Boat Cruise on Mission Bay |
The 17th Annual TSR&TP Research Symposium will be held at the Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego, April 23-24, 2004. The agenda will feature keynote addresses on biomonitoring, a panel of TSR&TP alumni who will speak about life after graduate school and the twists and turns of their career paths, and a special lunchtime cruise on Mission Bay aboard the William D. Evans steamboat. Raffle prizes and the winner of the Best Poster Award contest will be announced during the cruise. Posters will be judged on their ability to communicate science to a broad audience, scientific content, creativity, and visual presentation. The student with the best poster will receive $500 in travel funds to present their research at a scientific meeting. All faculty and students who are funded by the TSR&TP during the 2003-04 academic year will receive a personalized invitation via email. The general public is also welcome to attend the Symposium for a nominal meal charge. Former trainees of the TSR&TP can sign up on our alumni list to receive an all-expense-paid invitation to the Symposium. A detailed agenda and registration information will be posted on this website soon. |
