2002-2003 Grant Funding Now Available

Applications are now being accepted for 2002-2003 Investigator-Initiated Grants, Interdisciplinary Research Team Grants (new this year), and Graduate Student Fellowships. In addition, Student Intercampus Travel Grants are available for funding anytime throughout the year.

The new Interdisciplinary Research Team Grants are available for up to $150,000 for a two year project period. The emphasis in this new call for proposals is to fund consortia of 3 (or 4) investigators who have not collaborated extensively before.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, January 31, 2002.

Job Announcement: PGR Position at UC Davis

A new Post-Graduate Researcher (PGR) position is available immediately to assist two faculty members and a Staff Research Associate in performing experiments to study the pathogenesis of asthma in a mouse model of this disease. Initially, the PGR will assist in exposures of mice to aerosols in the laboratory; lavaging and fixation of lungs from experimental animals; embedding, sectioning, staining, and evaluation of lung tissue and lavage samples from the mice; and micro-dissection of airways from fixed lung tissue. Eventually, the PGR will also assist in performing experiments to measure physiological responses of the lungs of these animals during and after exposures.

The applicant should have basic knowledge of biochemistry, physiology, and anatomy. They should have prior laboratory experience (or ability to learn) working with laboratory animals (mice). Flexibility in doing different parts of this project and willingness to learn new methods are important attributes for the successful applicant.

The position is located at the Toxic Substances Research & Teaching Program at UC Davis and is funded by a research grant that has been awarded through June 2004.
