TSR&TP Awards Graduate Student Fellowships
The UC TSR&TP was established by the University of California in 1985 in response to a mandate by the California State Legislature. The mission of the UC TSR&TP is to "support long-term research and graduate education in toxics-related fields that will help provide the new concepts and scientific talent essential to solving the problems of toxic chemicals in our environment." To fulfill this mission, the UC TSR&TP holds an annual competition for supporting research projects dealing with problems relevant to California. The competitive grants program is approaching its third year of offering graduate student fellowship awards in addition to investigator-initiated grants. Requests for proposal announcements were distributed to all UC campuses and the three national laboratories in early November, and the deadline for submission of proposals is January 31, 1997. Please see the Research Proposal Requests page for details of the RFPs. To demonstrate the types of proposals that are funded by the TSR&TP, following are brief descriptions of the eight graduate student fellowships awarded in last year's competition. This is by no means a comprehensive list of research supported by the program, for the TSR&TP is continually reaching out to new fields and research areas to fulfill its mission.
